Michigan Metalcore outfit For The Fallen Dreams are set to release their self titled sixth studio album on March 10th. The band’s vocalist Chad Ruhlig took the time to talk with Metal Express Radio about the band’s upcoming album, the band’s upcoming tour with Gideon, plans for 2023, and more. Metal Express Radio: For The Fallen Dreams are set to release their new self titled album on March 10th via Arising Empire, what can you tell fans about the upcoming album?
Ruhlig: It is definitely our strongest release to date. We took our time dialing in and recreating the FTFD sound that fans have come to love over the last 15+ years.
MER: How was the writing and recording process being the band’s sixth album?
Ruhlig: This release was undeniably approached differently than any album before it. We worked with a lot of producers to bring out the best possible songs. We would all go over the material over and over and decide which tracks fit best for the album. Recording had that same approach.
MER: Is there a particular reason or story as to why the album is self titled?
Ruhlig: We wanted to make a statement that this is the start of a new era for the band, this is the most mature and redefined version of For The Fallen Dreams. Love, hate, and everything in between we have stood the test of time and this is our rebirth.
MER: How would you compare this to the band’s previous five albums?
Ruhlig: There is definitely a clear shift in the songwriting and sound of the band. We still wanted to stay true to the core of our roots though as well. It is the most mature and well executed release of ours. It has something for everyone across all music genres, whereas our previous releases played it a little safer.
MER: You’ve released three songs from the album, what kind of feedback have you received from them?
Ruhlig: I think a little bit of everything, which is what we wanted. New fans that are blown away at first listen, old fans that aren’t completely on board just yet, in between reactions that have come to love it and then ride or die listeners that have been with us throughout our entire journey and just love the fact that we’re still here and creating music for them. That’s the beauty of music and creation, everyone consumes it differently and everyone’s take on it is completely subjective! All in all it’s been amazing and we’re happy to continue to release new music into the world.
MER: For The Fallen Dreams will soon be touring with Gideon, what are your expectations on the upcoming tour?
Ruhlig: Just to have a good time and reconnect with our fans. It’s been over 3 years since we’ve been on the road so to just see everyone and share memories and that experience on stage with everyone is enough for us.
MER: What do you see as far as plans for the band after the tour with Gideon?
Ruhlig: Continuous touring throughout the year both home and abroad. Lots of work to do and we’re looking forward to it!
MER: Who do you hope to tour with that you haven’t yet and why?
Ruhlig: I would personally love to hit the road with Parkway Drive in the near future. We’ve both been around for close to two decades and have survived the ups and downs that come with that type of longevity. Sound changes, criticism, and reinvention. I have a tremendous amount of respect for those guys and what we’ve been able to accomplish in our shared space. We’ve yet to hit the road together so hopefully that will change soon!
MER: Since forming in 2003 what have been some of your favorite memories with the band?
Ruhlig: I think just experiencing life through the lens of an artist. Most never get the chance to do what we do and to be able to play our music around the world in front of all different cultures is truly remarkable and we never take it for granted.
MER: Out of seven studio albums, what is the one album you would suggest to a new fan and why?
Ruhlig: Our new album for sure. It has a taste of everything from across all 7 of our releases. It embodies everything FTFD is, has been and will be!
