Upcoming Metalcore outfit Half Me are set to release their debut album entitled Soma on February 17th via Arising Empire. The band’s vocalist Chris Zuehlke took the time to talk with Metal Express Radio about Half Me’s upcoming album, working with Jack Bergin of Void Of Vision, self producing the band and more. Metal Express Radio: Half Me’s debut album Soma is set to be released on February 17th via Arising Empire, what can you tell fans about the band’s very first full length album?
Zuehlke: Soma is our take on Metalcore. It’s a heavy album and encapsulates what moved us through the last few years. We’ve worked and collaborated with very talented people to make it happen, so we’re more than thrilled to finally have it out there.
MER: How was it writing and recording as a band for the first time?
Zuehlke: We’re used to grinding it out with single releases, so writing and recording a full LP has definitely been a different challenge. It is a different way of making art. The production is meant to fit a range of different moods that are displayed through the whole album. It was a great challenge that helped us grow as artists.
MER: How did the formation of the band come about?
Zuehlke: The band is put together with individuals from various former band projects.
MER: The band has released four different singles from the album, what kind of feedback have you been able to receive?
Zuehlke: The international feedback on the singles has been rewarding. Listeners have been finding numerous ways to show us their enjoyment. We feel nothing but gratitude.
MER: Do you feel those four songs give fans an idea on what to expect from the full album?
Zuehlke: The single selection deliberately frames the creative spectrum of the album. We showed our extremes with them.
MER: How was it working with Jack Bergin of Void Of Vision on the song “Exit Wound”?
Zuehlke: It was a blast, love the dude.
MER: What has it been like to self produce the band’s work?
Zuehlke: It is a double-edged sword. It’s far more time-consuming, tedious, and often frustrating but as much as the production process has eaten us alive, we cherish the creative control we’re given.
MER: What are the band’s plans after the album release?
Zuehlke: Playing a shit ton of live shows and working on more music.
MER: Who do you hope to tour with and why?
Zuehlke: Loathe and Alpha Wolf would be sick. Their live shows are insane.
MER: What are your hopes for the band’s future?
Zuehlke: Growth.
