Make Way For The God Machine!

German Heavy Metal legends Blind Guardian have returned with their 12th full-length studio release on Nuclear Blast records, tiled The God Machine, and it’s a show stopper, head banger, and fantastic release. One of the most stable lineups from any 80s metal bands, and still going stronger than ever with Hansi Kürsch displaying his incredible vocal talents. The twin guitars of André Olbrich and Marcus Siepen are razor tight, while Frederik Ehmke’s drumming is lightning fast, yet not overplayed.

Speed Metal Evolution

After the last two orchestral heavy releases, Blind Guardian has returned a little closer to their roots with this album. The band and producer Charlie Bauerfeind wanted to emphasize the band in its essence, and the result is nothing but absolutely mind-blowing. Kürsch: “We didn’t want to rehash our qualities from 1995, but didn’t want to continue down this complex path forever either. The God Machine is a new beginning for us. We’ve set a new course and gone back to certain things that we’ve neglected a bit on the last few albums.” Favorite tracks for this reviewer in essence include the entire record, but to name a few to start with the opener “Deliver Us From Evil,” the awesome “Violent Shadows,” the hypnotic “Life beyond The Spheres,” and the epic closing track “Destiny.”

Final Notes

This album is packed with great songs, killer melodies, fantastic vocals and slick production that all add up to a top notch release. It’s always a pleasure to listen to an older, legendary band that not only still has it, but keeps finding new ways to turn it up a notch. With The God Machine they have reached a pinnacle that will be hard to top, but it’ll be great to see what’s next for Blind Guardian. Fans of Power Metal, Speed Metal and all Heavy Metal that rips and tears with a melodic vocal will delight in this album. Don’t waste a moment, pick up a copy today, you’ll be so glad you did!
