( votes)Finally, an official Black Crowes live album, and a long awaited concert – souvenir for those faithful concert goers. Having been able to catch many of their shows through the years, I’m happy to report that this is a very honest representation of what the Crowes sounds like live. Hopefully their break is only for a short time, if not, this is a very graceful bow-out for one of the greatest bands ever.
We get almost all the hits (“Twice as hard,” “Hard to handle,” “She talks to angels,” “Remedy,” “Sting me”), a lot of the excellent Lions-tracks (“Midnight from the inside out,” “Lickin,” “Greasy grass river,” “Soul singing” etc.) and some tracks from Amorica and Three snakes and one charm. Sadly no songs from By your side, but we can’t get everything. Still there’s “new” track (haven’t been on an album) called “Title song,” and it is rather good!
Live was recorded on their latest tour, and therefore we get the Crowes on their sharpest form, all business about their songs, and not much jamming (something they keenly executed for a number of tours, excluding many, but bringing joy to their true fans). Of course, that jamming helped making the band what they are today (not considering their current break…), and they grew considerable as musicians, making them able to create the kind of music we all enjoy. Intelligent, catchy, introspective, touching, honest and rocking music. Real music by true artists, something that’s rare in todays music-scene. Support the Crowes and buy this celebration of real music. And may The Black Crowes soon return!
Highlighs: Thick n thin, Title song, Soul singing, Wiser time, High head blues, Twice as hard.
