BLACKMORE’S NIGHT – Fires At Midnight

How can you be a hundred percent politically incorrect? Well, you can state, like I do, that Ritchie Blackmore’s work with his talented wife, Candice Night, is the best effort he has ever cut on disc. Though this is perhaps not the best Blackmore’s Night record (that tells you more about the others than this one), it’s a killer CD. While some parts have more electric guitars than the two first CD’s, “Under A Violet Moon” and “Shadow Of The Moon”, again you find Ritchie’s beautiful clean and acoustic guitars inspired by the Middle Ages, topped by the even more beautiful singing of Candice. The Bob Dylan cover “The Times They Are A Changing” starts the whole thing, right after Candice have spellbound you with the intro “Written In The Stars”, while other highlights are the title track and “Home Again”, where you can picture Blackmore walking into a German bierstube… You would have to be allergic to beauty and genius melodies to avoid picking up a copy of “Fires At Midnight”.
