( vote)The Backstory
Electric Haze formed in Umeå, Sweden back in 2014. In 2016 they released their self-titled EP. Get in Line is the group’s first full-length album.
The Album
“Succuba” is a catchy hard rocker with lots of energy and bombast. Vocalist Anton Ekström laments about a seductive woman who is really a demon ready to steal his soul. “Woah” keeps the momentum going with pounding kick drums and more cowbell than your ’70s soul can handle. The chorus is sure to be a great sing-along section at live shows. Anton stumbles a little bit on “Get In Line.” It’s clear those particular high notes aren’t really meant for him. Musically the song maintains a tight groove and bluesy bounce.
Guitarist Tommy Töyrä flexes his chops throughout “All I Ask For,” with meaty riffs and fiery solos. Lyrically the track condemns those that abuse their power. Electric Haze bring out the acoustics for the grief-stricken ballad “Cavern of Pain.” Drummer Yuppie Andersson is a madman leading the charge on “Lest We Forget.” Anton nails the falsetto tones this time around. The riff show returns on “Too Close to the Truth.” Bassist André Ekström gets his due on the emotionally building track “Cryin’.”
The Verdict
Get in Line revitalizes the Glam Rock you loved in the ’80s and adds a splash of ’90s Stoner Rock to the mix. For their first proper studio album, Electric Haze delivers a fun Rock ‘n’ Roll ride with no frills.
