( votes)Teutonic Power Metal Debut
Fans of German Power metallers Reinforcer will be happy for the long awaited 1st full-length release: Prince of The Tribes on Scarlet Records. Formed in 2015 by guitarist Niclas Stappert and bassist Marvin Fretter, Reinforcer are following up their debut 5 song EP The Wanderer from 2018. Stappert and Fretter are in good company with Lasse Schmiedel on the drums, Tobias Schwarzer on guitars and Logan Lexi on vocals.
The Riddle of Steel
Reinforcer follow the formulae of twin guitars, speedy double bass drums, anthemic chants and lyrics based on historical moments in time. From the opening track “Prince of the Tribes”, we are thrust into the story of a Teutonic noble stolen by Rome to be a warrior for the empire. In “Allegiance and Steel” we witness an epic tale of Vikings against Anglo Saxons in a catchy, high speed tune laden with plenty of harmony guitars. The constants are the themes of war, battle, death and heroism with a pirate story and a few others to keep it lively, and the musical precision of the players.
Final Notes
Prince of The Tribes is a solid first effort from a young band that has already been together going on 6 years, and it shows in their playing. The one area that could use some improvement would be the vocal melodies, as they get a bit monotonous as the album continues. Logan Lexxi is a more than capable vocalist, but the melodies could use a bit more variety, and complexity to compliment the brilliant harmony guitar work. That said, the music has a lot to offer, growing on the listener quickly. Reinforcer are off to a great start, and Prince of the Tribes deserves a spot in your Power Metal collection.
