Live from Anselmo’s Nodferatus (not a misspelling) Lair at Housecore Records in New Orleans, we were given a performance that not only lived up to it’s name “A Vulgar Display of Pantera”, it also captured the energy and spirit of the band. As the entire set was dedicated to the late Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, that emotion fueled the show that was about to explode. (setlist below)

The barefoot Anselmo took the stage, and was then joined by guitarists Mike DeLeon and Stephen Taylor, bassist Derek Engemann, and drummer Joey Gonzalez. After a little bit of sound issues during the starting performance of “Suicide Note Pt. I”, and “A New Level”, the rest of the show went off without a hitch.

The band continued the all Pantera set with “Mouth for War”, “Becoming”, “We’ll Grind That Axe for a Long Time” and 1 of my favorites, “Yesterday Don’t Mean Shit”. Although Philip made the statement ” we are a bit rusty” it surely wasn’t noticeable, as it seemed they picked up right where they left off.

Mike DeLeon’s guitar was on fire as he shredded his way though the blazing riffs of Dimebag. Stephen Taylor, Derek Engemann, and Joey Gonzalez were exceptional. Their energy was non stop throughout this Vulgar Display of Pantera. After a brief intermission, the show continued with “Domination”, “Hollow”, “Walk,” which saw Philip joined onstage by a young boy named Roman to lend a hand vocally. \m/ Rock on Roman \m/

This show will not only satisfy your Philip H. Anselmo and the Illegals fix, but still leave your mouth watering to attend one of their upcoming tour shows. As this past year has brought us many online shows, this one made you feel like you were one of the 50 people in attendance. It wasn’t over blown with visuals, drawn out interviews or staged skits. This was simply the best streamed show yet.
