Ireland’s Fighting Heart
Black Star Riders front man Ricky Warwick returns with his 5th solo album When Life Was Hard and Fast [review] on February 19, 2021. Joining Warwick for this album is his backing band The Fighting Hearts; Xavier Muriel (ex-Buckcherry), Robert Crane (Black Star Riders), and Keith Nelson (ex-Buckcherry). Nelson not only plays guitar, but he is also the producer. Warwick states he chose Nelson because he shares his “passion for good, honest, rock ‘n’ soul.” This contributor got an advance copy of When Life Was Hard and Fast. The album is a collection of no bullshit, simple, and catch rock songs. If you only know Ricky for Black Star Riders or The Almighty, then you will surly be surprised at how multifaceted Warwick can be musically.
Ricky gets a little help from his friends on When Life Was Hard and Fast. Guest appearances include Andy Taylor (ex-Duran Duran, Power Station), Luke Morley (Thunder), Dizzy Reed (Guns N’ Roses), Joe Elliot (Def Leppard), and his daughter Pepper Warwick on the touching ballad “Time Doesn’t Seem to Matter.” I had the chance to speak with Ricky Warwick about his new solo album, why writing solo is easier than in a group, his side-work with Andy Taylor, the next Black Star Riders album, and much more…
*Sorry I got the name of the album wrong in our interview Ricky*
