The Train Keeps Rolling
Keyboardist Mark Mangold has had a long and storied career. It all began when he formed the power trio American Tears in 1974. After releasing three studio albums, American Tears morphed into the band Touch. Touch released two albums from 1980-1982 before disbanding. Touch was the first band to play the inaugural Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington in 1980. From there Mangold focused songwriting. He collaborated with Michael Bolton on his two lesser known AOR albums (a must listen), plus together they wrote “I Found Someone” that went on to be a hit single for Cher.
Mark was a member of Drive, She Said who released their debut album in 1989 through CBS Records. Fiona, Aldo Nova, and Bob Kulick made guest appearances. In 2000 Mangold teamed up with Randy Jackson (Zebra), Terry Brock (Strangeways), Billy Greer (Kansas), and Bobby Rondinelli (Rainbow) to form the super group The Sign. They released two albums through Frontiers Music. In 2018 Mark Mangold revived American Tears with the release of Hardcore and has released an album under that moniker each year since. 2020 sees the release of Free Angel Express. Mark deems his brand of music “keyboard rock.” If you want to know why, let Mark tell you himself.
