Underground NWOBH Legends Update an Influential Classic
Diamond Head is celebrating the 40th anniversary of their first album with the release of Lightning to the Nations 2020 on November 27, 2020. Diamond Head released the original Lightning to Nations in 1980 just as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene was picking up steam. The independently released album turned out to be the definitive opus for Diamond Head.
Lightning to the Nations influenced many Metal bands over the years, most notably Metallica. Metallica covered numerous songs from the album throughout their career that some fans thought Diamond Head were ripping them off during some live performances. I had the chance to talk with Diamond Head guitarist Brian Taller about why they chose to re-record Lightning to the Nations. Tatler also discusses how the original recording came to be and where the band’s trajectory went from there.
Diamond Head is
Brian Tatler – Lead, Rhythm Guitars
Rasmus Bom Andersen – Vocals, Orchestration, Additional Guitars
