BLACK KNIGHT – Road To Victory

Road To Victory is the third record from Classic Heavy Metal band Black Knight. The band was formed in 1981 in Amsterdam, with its first record release in 2000. The current line up features original drummer Rudo Plooy, lead vocalist David Marcellis, guitarists Ruben Raadschelders and Gertjan Vis, and bassist Ron Heikens.

Road To Victory has some good songs. Marcellis has a very good voice and a wide range. There are many strong guitar riffs and some strong lyrical concepts. “Legend” has a good hook and some strong musicality. “Crossing The Rubicon” is another of the stronger tracks, with an extended guitar solo with much to offer. Unfortunately, Road To Victory is plagued with timing issues. Most songs seem to randomly speed up or drag, and it causes parts to seem out of sync. There are numerous little glitches throughout that just seem to lack a polished feel. Drums out of time, notes that don’t quite hit the beat, and even some guitar licks that lose definition trying to keep up.

Overall, Road To Victory really could have been a much better record with some more attention to detail. The pieces are mostly there, but the final product loses steam in the execution. Fans of Black Knight, Classic Heavy Metal, and NWOBHM will probably still find some enjoyable tracks on Road To Victory.
