There is a legendary British rock group, who formed in 1969 and after 50 years have sold over 45 million albums worldwide. If you were thinking it was Uriah Heep, you’d be right. The band is currently on tour with Judas Priest in support of Living the Dream, their 25th studio album. The new album is classic heavy rock / metal in the vein of Deep Purple & Rainbow, and may be their best work yet. The new songs are well written, and performed, and the live show really emphasizes the tightness of this legendary band.
The Show
The show opens with ‘Grazed by Heaven‘, and the band sounds amazing. The lineup consists of founding member and guitarist Mick Box, singer Bernie Shaw, keyboardist Phil Lanzon, bassist Davey Rimmer and drummer Russell Gilbrook. Mick Box has a guitar tone to die for, and Phil Lanzon’s heavy Hammond B3 sound perfectly compliments the songs, keeping the band grounded with that classic Hammond tone. Bernie Shaw was excellent, with a great stage presence and energy on stage.
The band played 11 songs in all, blending cuts from the new album with classics that you would expect from this excellent group. In conclusion, with the success of ‘Living the Dream‘ and all of the attention they are getting from this tour, you can look for a lot more to come from this classic heavy band that still has what it takes to surprise and excite metal fans around the world!
