( votes)Sweet Oblivion is the debut album from Sweet Oblivion, a new project featuring former Queensrÿche vocalist Geoff Tate, and a team of stellar Italian musicians. The lineup includes Simone Mularoni on guitars and bass, Emanuele Casali on keyboards and Paolo Caridi on drums, with Mularoni handling the producer role. While having a band member at the production helm usually leads to an out of balance mix, Sweet Oblivion is a superb recording. Mularoni’s intent was to produce a classic heavy rock sound with an 80s sound and a classic Queensrÿche vibe. The truth is, not only did he capture the essence of the classic Queensrÿche sound, he advanced it.
The musical performances on Sweet Oblivion are second to none, and while the Queensrÿche vibe is certainly present and evident, the modern production, more progressive and technical songwriting and performances, and the addition of prominent and exceptional keyboard parts, Sweet Oblivion is what Queensrÿche should have become. Sweet Oblivion starts off with “True Colors”, a technically proficient rager with a killer hook, and every last element that makes a great song. The production is so good. Geoff Tate fans, Queensrÿche fans, Melodic Rock, Progressive Rock, and Hard Rock fans take note. Sweet Oblivion is the record Queensrÿche fans have longed for since Operation: Mindcrime.
The REAL Queensrÿche already released what the QR fans wanted. Pick up “The Verdict” and hear what I am saying!
