STEEL NIGHT – Fight Till The End

Mexico’s Steel Night brings us their first full-length album Fight Till The End. Despite some lovable characteristics, there are simply too many missteps and down-right amateurish moments on this release for it to be considered an admirable effort. Ranging from song titles and lyrical themes that are so overused that they border on comical, to a forced, “vintage”, reverb-laden production style that steps on its own feet, the album has so many cringe worthy moments that Fight Till The End is is pretty much what the listener will have to do to get through the album in one listen.

Stylistically, Steel Night sounds like a blend of RIOT-esq Speed Metal, and standard New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. Certainly, there are many modern bands which execute this style well. Unfortunately for Steel Night, Fight Till The End tries but never really succeeds at capturing the magic of its influences. “Heavy Metal Storm” is pretty good, but then we get into numbers like “Wings Of Steel” which is so close to Iron Maiden’s “Aces High” that it might be inviting a few phone calls from Maiden’s attorneys.

Perhaps with time, and a wider range of artists to take inspiration from, Steel Night can up their game and bring something to the table that can go up against other bands that play this style at a top level like Attick Demons. As it is, Fight Till The End will have a hard time finding a happy audience beyond the band themselves.
