( vote)The End Machine is the self-titled debut from American Rock Band The End Machine. This is no ordinary debut, however, since the members include original Dokken members George Lynch, guitar, Jeff Pilson, bass, and Mick Brown on drums, along with Warrant/Lynch Mob Vocalist Robert Mason. But The End Machine isn’t really a “supergroup” either since that rather implies a band composed of all-stars from different groups. The End Machine falls somewhere between a Dokken reunion, and a Lynch Mob reunion, and definitely errs on the side of the latter. Much more blues-infused and moody than a Dokken record, The End Machine really probably could have been a Lynch Mob release.
Perhaps they felt a new name was in order, perhaps contractually in didn’t work, or perhaps they are continuing the trend of records released by an assortment of musicians that may tour, may not, and may ever work together again, in order to satisfy the musical ADD of today’s audience and generate revenue. Notwithstanding, The End Machine is an enjoyable record. Stand out tracks “Alive Today” and “Love Is Life Is Music” showcase Mason’s powerful voice, and lush vocal harmonies in an anthemic, upbeat fashion. Lynch runs a gamut of technical exploration, from the fingerstyle slide lead in “Hold Me Down” to wide intervalic gymnastics in “Sleeping Voices” and “No Game”. Fans of Lynch, Dokken, and especially Lynch Mob will enjoy The End Machine.
