( vote)Theatrical Masterpiece is the 2nd album from Folk Power Metal act Thornbridge. Hailing from Germany, this band is among a slew of great Power Metal outfits from that country, and is one of the most recent to gain traction and attention. This eleven track release is heavy on the Nordic and Fantasy vibes but retains a welcome level of rawness thanks to copious amount of gang-shout choruses and organic guitar work.
Fans of Turisas, Unleash The Archers, and Blind Guardian will be right at home, although anyone who enjoys the Power Metal genre generally, will find something to like here. There might even be some old-school Thrash fans that will be willing to rub elbows with the elf-eared fans of Folk Metal, thanks to the more aggressive tracks on the album like “Ember In The Winter Grove”.
Vocalist Jörg “Mo” Naneder, comes across as focused, and believable, as if he has actually lived these tales (or at least heard them first hand) that he’s now retelling to you. While his voice lacks a certain unique character that many other well known Power Metal vocalists have, he makes up for it with precision and technical ability.
If you’re looking for straight-forward, guitar driven songs about sailing the open seas, wenching, drinking ale, and, of course, dragons, then Thornbridge’s Theatrical Masterpiece is just the ticket!
