( votes)Resilient Heart is the newest solo effort from former Accept/Bonfire front man David Reece, his second as a solo artist under the REECE moniker. A mix of bass led Melodic Metal with some edges and straightforward AOR Hard Rock, the thirteen songs don’t offer much in terms of innovation but the bluesy drive and spirit of the album offers enough energy to keep listeners engaged. Songs like “Ain’t Got The Balls” and the quite good “Wicked City Blues” invite favorable comparisons to early Whitesnake (especially the ones with garish airbrushed covers like Come An’ Get It and Lovehunter).
Follow-up piano power ballad “Forest Through The Trees” also has more than a touch of Whitesnake—or at least David Coverdale, whose career and catalogue is filled with similarly introspective slow songs. Two singles have been released in support of the album thus far—“Any Time At All” is both the album’s best cut and Reece’s best vocal performance; “Perfect Apocalypse” features Reece’s band rocking harder than on most of the tracks.
The promotional material suggests that “Perfect Apocalypse” has an Iron Maiden vibe, although the track (and the next one, the gripping and swift “Live Before You Die”) sound more like the material that Dickinson’s Skunkworks band produced. Resilient Heart isn’t going to be an album that will inspire anyone to rush out and force the unconverted to listen to it, but it is solid enough to earn repeated listens.
