( vote)Since Impellitteri’s 2009 album Wicked Maiden, the band has been on an upswing. After that well received return-to-form the band followed with Venom in 2015, which was equally well embraced by fans. Fortunately, The Nature Of The Beast marks another successful effort. Featuring what could be considered the classic Impellitteri lineup (not including the drummer position) of Rob Rock, Chris Impellitteri, and James Pulli, The Nature Of The Beast is one of the most Impellitteri sounding Impellitteri records ever.
This 12 track offering has many highlights. “Run For Your Life” was the first single released and represents the more traditional tracks from the album well. Some of the other songs like “Hypocrisy” and “Gates Of Hell” have a more punk lean to them and although the drumming in these faster songs gets a bit tiresome, the album is paced well enough to avoid listener fatigue.
Another highlight is the Black Sabbath cover, “Symptom Of The Universe”. The song is based heavily on the original recording but polished, refined, and delivered with more flair. Unsurprisingly, the track fits nicely into the overall album and represents a nice mid-tempo break among the faster, original tracks.
Throughout The Nature Of The Beast, guitarist Chris Impellitteri is in top form. This is really impressive when we step back and consider the length of his career. Few guitarists have been more consistently excellent over such a long period of time. While this may not be the best Impellitteri album ever, which this critic feels would be Screaming Symphony from 1994, this is still a very solid release and a sign that the band still going strong.
