( votes)Evil Enough is the debut album from guitarist / vocalist Tara Lynch, and features an all-star lineup of band members and guest performers including Glen Sobel, Mark Boals, Vinny Appice, Tony MacAlpine, and Bjorn Englen. This Melodic Metal release, while bolstering an impressive, top-shelf production quality, falls short with lackluster songwriting, pedestrian themes and lyrics, and a generally inconsistent artistic direction. Its crisp sonic delivery and overall polish salvages the album from its shortcomings, but only just barely.
Evil Enough includes several instrumental tracks, which are quite good and make a strong case for a purely instrumental album from Tara Lynch sometime in the future. Her playing is absolutely blistering on these numbers, with “Exit The Warrior” being an especially impressive track. The other, vocally centered, tracks are also good, but they often lack a certain catchiness that this genre has come to require. Lyrically, many of the songs have a certain naive quality that betrays the sophomore nature of this album.
One notable highlight of this album is Mark Boals’ guest vocals on the title track “Evil Enough” and “Trustless”. His voice is as crisp and powerful as it has ever been and this will truly be a treat for his longtime fans. Between his guest vocals taking center stage, and the remarkably strong instrumental tracks, Evil Enough could easily be a preview of the next Boals centered project, with Tara Lynch featured on lead guitar.
