Grimmest Hits is the tenth studio release from Black Label Society, the American Hard Rock band fronted by legendary Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde. Wylde has been extremely busy of late, touring extensively with his Black Sabbath tribute band, Zakk Sabbath, and launching a line of guitars and amps under the name Wylde Audio. It was also recently announced the Wylde would be rejoining Ozzy for his farewell tour. The title is somewhat deceptive, as Grimmest Hits is not a greatest hits compilation, but an entirely brand new record featuring 12 new tracks.

The influence of Black Sabbath, and Ozzy Osbourne is undeniable in these songs. The mix is murky, and there is a rawness to it that could be an attempt to recreate the vibe of a Sabbath record, or it could be the mark of a hastily produced, under budgeted endeavor. It not for the trademark sequel of artificial harmonics and machine gun riffage Wylde is famous for, Grimmest Hits could easily be passed off as a collection of unreleased Sabbath material from the 70s. Fans of Black Sabbath, Black Label Society, and Zakk Wylde will enjoy this collection of new music, especially since BLS hasn’t released anything new since 2014.

Stevie was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio. He is currently the lead guitarist for Melodic Rock band Red Reign, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA. Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
