( votes)With Aerodyne’s debut, they throw their hat into the growing resurgence of Swedish Glam Metal bands alongside acts like Kissin’ Dynamite, Santa Cruz, and Crazy Lixx. Whether or not this style can support more bands remains to be seen, but Aerodyne can’t be faulted for their execution or a lack of enthusiasm. With ten tracks of leather jacket and jeans style 80’s Pop Metal, Breaking Free is a welcome gift to fans of this genre.
Aerodyne brings us a curious yet familiar mix of old and new. Classic Mötley Crüe style riffs are blended almost seamlessly with modern vocal effects and poppy, shout style choruses. Lyrics are unapologetic and androcentric with themes that are guaranteed to appeal to the 80’s rocker crowd. Taking a tip from Manowar, about half of Aerodyne’s songs are written about themselves.
The only thing missing on Breaking Free is a power ballad. All ten tracks are mid to up-tempo singalong songs with little stylistic variation. Having a track or two stepping out of the 80’s Glam style might have given the overall album a bit more depth, but as it is, this is still very good for a debut release. Check out Aerodyne’s music video for the lead single “Comin’ For You” below. It’s an accurate taste of the full album and should appeal to most fans of poppier, old-school Metal.
Album highlights include “Comin’ For You”, “Aerodynamic”, “Setting Hell On Fire” and the album closer “Back To Back”.
