( vote)Dead End, Scars of Armageddon’s second album, features vastly improved production quality from their first effort. This is a welcome change and helps to increase the power of an already crushing blend of Thrash and Power Metal. With some incredibly tight guitar work and truly stratospheric vocals, Dead End will more than please fans of heavier Power Metal material. Keyboards and synths are largely absent here, replaced with demon’s whip inducing guitar riffs and kick drum work.
On the downside, as the album winds its way through 10 tracks of mostly mid to up-tempo headcrushers, the overall style gets a bit stale. There is very little deviation in terms of the songwriting from track to track. Some nice changes do come in on “Elf Revolution” and “What Lurks Beneath”, but some of the other tracks tend to run together with very little artistic exploration. Overall though, this is a vast step in the right direction from their debut release Never Sleep Again. Fans of Dragonforce, Striker, and Iced Earth, will want to check this out.
