( vote)With a new record label and a Swedish made record production, Brazilian Power Metallers Dark Avenger are back with a vengeance on The Beloved Bones: Hell. Fans of Symphony X albums and the heavier works of Dream Theater will be right at home here.
This 10 track, nearly hour long concept album finds the band delving deeper into their Progressive roots than ever before. The title track represents the album very well and explores some rather uncommon (for Power Metal) song structure territory as well as a unique arrangement that takes advantage of the depth and detail of this album’s production.
Considering that Power Metal is a genre that is often locked tightly into the rigid expectations of the fans, Dark Avenger has been able to stretch the envelope in some refreshing ways on The Beloved Bones. There are times that the band seems to get a bit lost in their quest for originality, but they manage to keep a lid on things with well honed performances and practiced execution.
Highlights include “The Beloved Bones”, “Empowerment” and “Parasite”.
