Janet Gardner is the self-titled solo debut from Janet Gardner, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of legendary all female ’80s Hair Metal Band Vixen. Best known for their hit “Edge Of A Broken Heart”, co-written by pop icon Richard Marx, Vixen rose to the top of their career in 1988, touring with the likes of Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, and Kiss. They split in 1991, shortly after the release of their second album, Rev It Up.

Gardner is back, like many of the top acts from the ’80s, but this is something different. Rather than rehash the previous work, or try to relive the glory days, Janet Gardner has a decidedly modern flavor. Gardner teamed up with husband Justin James, who is a guitarist, songwriter, and producer, to create an excellent meld of modern production and Modern Rock with a classic flavor.

If the listener didn’t know the history, Janet Gardner would sound like a new Hard Rock artist debut, and a good one at that. “Candle” is a powerful, emotional rollercoaster that starts off sultry and breaks into a full on rocker. “Your Problem Now” is probably the most throwback sounding track on the record, and still manages to be modern and edgy. “Hippycrite” is reminiscent of straight ahead Modern Rock ala Texas Hippie Coalition. Fans of Gardner’s previous work will certainly enjoy Janet Gardner, and fans of Modern Rock, particularly female-fronted modern bands, should definitely check it out.

Red Reign toured with Tesla in 2017, and shared the stage with Dokken, FireHouse, Lita Ford, Kix, Quiet Riot, and others at various dates around the US in 2018. Stevie heard his first KISS record at the age of 6 and was immediately hooked on Rock and Roll guitar. Over the course of years his tastes evolved, graduating from KISS to Ozzy and Van Halen; and then into Hair Metal. Over time, harder and faster music drew him. Bands like Metallica, Pantera, and Anthrax led the way, and Killswitch Engage took him over the top. Stevie has a deep passion for the guitar, not only playing them, but building them as well.
