With a unique blend of New Wave of British Heavy Metal and Thrash, Immortal Synn have crafted a debut album that has a lot to offer in terms of its raw energy, straight-to-the-point attitude, and impressive technical proficiency. Machine Men is one of the stronger debut albums from an independent act of this genre.

Immortal Synn’s dual guitar attack of Tony Z and Miguel Ruíz brings to mind the legendary combinations of players like Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, or Adrian Smith and Dave Murray. Although Z’ and Ruíz’ creations don’t quite reach the levels of those predecessors, the harmonized melodies and traded guitar solos do add a welcome level of depth to Machine Men.

Although Immortal Synn’s classic influences are obvious, there are nods to more modern bands on tracks like “Liberty Rising” and “Machine Men”, the latter of which brings a welcome change in vocalist Chase McClellan’s delivery. Although his rasp and grit is very fitting on many of the songs, by the end of the album you start to wonder if he can do anything else. “Machine Men” answers that question in the affirmative.

Overall, this is a strong debut release from a band that clearly knows what it wants to sound like. With the right promotion and a few lucky breaks, Immortal Synn could be stepping up to larger stages as metal audiences take notice of the band’s dialed in sound and focused intensity.
