( votes)As The World Turns Black is the 10th studio release from German Melodic Thrash band Odium. Together since 1993, Oduim is celebrating their 25th year next year, and will be touring to support this new release. As The World Turns Black features 9 new tracks, coming in at 45 minutes long. Fans of Odium know what to expect from them, and fans of Melodic Thrash should give a listen. The songs are well written, and the recording quality is excellent. The drums, bass, and rhythm guitars are performed well for the most part, with occasional timing issues.
The lead instruments are where As The World Turns Black begins to lose points. The lead guitar is basic and lacks creativity. Certainly not what you would expect from a Thrash Metal band with 25 years experience. The lead vocals are primarily a monotone growl that clashes with the music tonally. When backing vocals are utilized the clash in pitch is almost cringe-worthy. The record would have been average if not for these very weak points.
There is not one track that stands above the others on the release. If you like one, you’ll like them all. If you don’t, you won’t.
