( votes)Tower of Babel, the new band from Neoclassical master Joe Stump, has released its first full-length album Lake Of Fire. With blatant Dio-era Rainbow influences, this will please fans of Classic Heavy Metal and perhaps even the more Neoclassical slanted Power Metal acts. While the songs here are good, and very enjoyable, one can’t help but feel that this album has already been made several times.
Lyrics and music taken together, most of the songs just sound a bit too well tread. The possible exception being “Addicted”, which uses some subtle synth lines and vocal layers to rise above the rest of the songs, despite its very typical song structure. “Lamb And The Wolves” is another strong track, but like most of the others, it suffers from simply arriving too late to the game in this genre.
Lake Of Fire is good, but considering the wealth of talent that exists in Tower Of Babel, this release could have been better. It will please existing fans of this style, but probably won’t gain any new ones.
