( votes)Hailing from Athens, Greece, Reflection has released their fourth album after an eight-year hiatus. Their sound is described as Epic/Doom Metal. While many songs on Bleed Babylon Bleed have Doom Metal elements, the majority of the songs are up-tempo and solidly within the realms of Epic Metal. The production, musicianship, and vocals reflect an experienced and professional band with a solid commercial sound. The songwriting captures excellent riffs and lyrical ideas but too often remain undeveloped and rely on chorus and riff repetition. When the band adds creative bridges, breaks, and tempo changes, the result can be outstanding.
The two leading tracks leading fall into this latter category. “Marching To Glory” is a tension-building intro track that leads into a sword and shield banging anthem, “Glorious Victory”. These are the best developed songs on the album and worthy of standing in the collection of any Metal fan. One can easily visualize these two songs playing as your favorite sports team takes the field of play. “Glorious Victory” employs the breaks and tempo changes which highlight the power potential of the band. The soaring vocals and guitars as well as the full, rich background vocals for the chorus make this a complete song.
Other songs that capture the best the band offers include: “Ruler Of My Own Land”, “Time Traveler”, and “Stormbringer”. Overall, Bleed Babylon Bleed demonstrates many good ideas that sometimes get stretched a bit too far. It is a worthy effort and an enjoyable listen showing a great deal of potential.
