( vote)California rockers TwentyDarkSeven are back with their sophomore album Momentum. This 10 track release (13 including bonus tracks) blends Melodic Metal and AOR to find a nice balance between Classic Metal acts like Ozzy Osbourne and more contemporary Heavy Hard Rock groups like Voodoo Circle and Magnus Karlsson. It comes as no surprise that these guys will be touring with modern Glam Metal warriors Kissin’ Dynamite.
While this is definitely a solid album, it does offer some predictable and well-tread lyrics, notably on “Shadows Of The Sun” and “Coming Home”. There is a constant feeling of artistic emulation rather than creation as if TwentyDarkSeven are trying just a little too hard to fit into a specific mold. The production is another note of critique and again it’s not really bad, but simply a bit over compressed and lacking in dynamics; taking away from the emotional content of the songs.
While Momentum doesn’t offer any more than its European counterparts — such as the new releases from Place Vendome and House Of Lords, it will be a refreshing treat for many American audiences.
