Crystal Viper has been releasing great albums for ten years. Queen Of The Witches bundles all of that experience into their latest work. Excellently produced, all instruments contribute to a wicked record that really jams. Great leads and riffs, complex bass lines, and energetic drumming. Not to mention the fantastic singing of Marta Gabriel, who is a borderline superhero by also playing guitar and writing the album’s material.

The driving, headbanging dominance of Power/Traditional/Fantasy Metal calms down with the fourth and eighth tracks, “Trapped Behind” and “We Will Make It Last Forever”, respectively. On both, deep and simple piano dances behind Marta Gabriel’s solemn voice. The songs are great ballads with good hooks, but her vocals (and hellacious screams!) are best shown on the more aggressive tracks that dominate the album. This record is a nice return after some health concerns that threatened to end the band. Here’s to this resurgence, and more from Crystal Viper!

Jude was a reviewer here at Metal Express Radio, living in Taiwan but originally from the great state of Ohio, USA. He first got into music when a fellow weirdo in his catholic high school needed someone to play guitar with. They jammed on some Grunge Rock, but soon he got hooked on the blisteringly-fast shredding of Randy Rhoads and other greats. Later, he bought Metallica's Ride The Lightning as his first album purchase. During that time, his friends and him would end up at local Metal shows. He played in some bands himself as well.
