( vote)After various line-up changes and inconsistent releases featuring cover songs and re-recordings, Xandria fans can now breathe a sigh of relief with the release of the band’s 7th studio album, Theater Of Dimensions. The disc is a lengthy but focused collection of Xandria’s brand of Symphonic Metal featuring all the operatic style vocals and orchestrations that the genre is known for while upping the guitar driven nature of Symphonic Metal’s Power and Speed Metal roots. As we can expect from a German band, production values are top of the line and the songs are offered in their best form. With a running time of 1 hour and 14 minutes, Xandria is able to take a number of artistic liberties with the arrangements and songwriting. No Symphonic Metal ingredient is left in the cupboard.
Vocalist Dianne Van Giersbergen continues to strengthen her name in the Metal community with particularly impressive performances on the ballad “Dark Night Of The Soul” and the mid-tempo headbanger “Burn Me”. Fans of the heavier material will enjoy “When The Walls Came Down” and “Ship Of Doom” while the guitar-hero crowd will gravitate towards the video single “Call Of Destiny”. Theater Of Dimensions is overall a great Metal release and will surely propel Xandria to new heights.
