( vote)Previously released in Japan, Solitude brings Reach For The Sky to their eager North American audience. A beautifully unadorned Metal album carried by distortion and volume, the raspy vocals of Akira Sugiuchi fit right into the Thrash genre. Solitude cite Saxon as one of their main influences, and the album cover with an eagle may be a hidden tribute.
The first track begins with a creepy acoustic medley and jumps into power chords, punchy bass, and tight drumwork. The rest of the LP continues as such, with the only fancy effect being dual guitar soloing here and there. Fans of Venom, Motörhead, and early Metallica will eat this up. Reach For The Sky is an album well in touch with the core of the Metal spirit; it’s dark, loud, and amicably vicious.
