Nikki Sixx and company have released their 2nd album of 2016 — Volume 2 of the couplet, if you will — entitled Prayers For The Blessed … the follow-up to Volume 1, Prayers For The Damned. It’s funny (or perhaps amazing) how the same individual predominantly responsible for penning Motley Crue tracks such as “She Goes Down” and “Ten Seconds To Love” can now be involved in such gut-wrenching emotional lyrics that froth with soul-burning pain, incessant longing, crushing regrets, pervasive loneliness, and deep-seeded love. Clearly Motley Crue was unable to feed the full gamut of musical expression that Sixx has had brewing inside of him … but Sixx: AM certainly has provided that clean-slate for Sixx and company to expose his soul without compromise, and that’s exactly what is written within the 10 tracks of this album.

Musically, Blessed starts out heavier than it’s Volume 1 counterpart, and essentially “better” overall as well. It’s filled with quality Modern Hard Rock, highlighted by James Michael’s vocal prowess that delivers that unique “urgency” feel to each track. The album begins a melancholy turn in its last third via the cover of Badfinger’s “Without You” (quite frankly, this cover could have been left off this album), which is followed by a small handful of tracks that sacrifice music for message … good, reflective tracks, just a very different collective personality compared to their predecessors.

Overall, Sixx: AM has knocked out another quality release in 2016 in the form of Blessed … perhaps a small notch better than the Damned … but either way, both albums are worth your time to check out.
