( votes)Metal mathematics lesson: One headbanging track, multiplied by eight, equals Burn Up The Night. This new record by Indian band Kryptos starts out strong and doesn’t let up until the last track fades out. “Unto Elysium” is the only song that even comes close to slowing down. Its tone of mourning will mend your battle scars from the first half of the album, and then it’s back into battle with the strongest track, “One Shot To Kill”.
Kryptos have been around since the late ’90s and claim to be honorably inspired by all the greats of Traditional Heavy Metal. But, that’s not what they sound like. Black Metal vocals supporting riff-driven melodies keep Kyptos unique even if they don’t want to be. Dual rhythm guitar work is really at the forefront, but that doesn’t discount the skilled contributions by the rest of the band. With no fancy effects or add-ons, Kryptos offer something very honest. If you’re looking to offset the complexities of Prog Metal, Burn Up The Night‘s fast, straightforward jams will strip things down to the pleasingly raw.
