( vote)Finnish masked metalers Lordi are back with their new album Monstereophonic: Theaterror Vs. Demonarchy. In a way, the album is a combination of two short albums with two, six song collections (and two intro tracks) arranged end to end. The style of both is essentially the unique brand of Hard Rock Power Metal that Lordi is known for with the latter of the two six track collections being a bit heavier and more experimental. While all the material on the album is clearly within the realm of Lordi’s established style, the two mini albums are different enough that they might have been represented better if Lordi could have squeezed out a few more tracks on each and released them separately. Regardless, production is up to the high standard of previous Lordi material and the songs are tight, catchy, and engaging.
While Lordi is sometimes written off as “GWAR but with better songs and more money”, metalheads who have yet to explore the band may find that Monstereophonic is a great introduction to the band’s style.
Highlights include, “Heaven Sent Hell On Earth”, “Break Of Dawn”, “Down With The Devil” and the creatively titled, “Let’s Go Slaughter He-Man. I Wanna Be The Beast Man In The Masters Of The Universe.”
