( vote)Fake Idols is the collaboration of musicians who strayed from their original bands in search of something better. They certainly found it with their 2016 release entitled Witness. With cameos by Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell and Elvenking’s Damna, and a cover of a Chemical Brothers tune, Italy’s Fake Idols aren’t afraid to experiment. They’re like an innovative startup company amassing great success simply because they’re having fun doing it.
This album boasts such a plethora of first-rate tracks, it’s hard to pick out the best. The sound is enjoyably raw, but the band makes a mistake or two when they try to polish it up and it gets a little Poppy. If you’re a fan of guitar solos, they are rather short and aren’t at the forefront. But what you’ll get instead is a high-octane force of Hard Rock/Metal bleeding with hooks. You might want to buy a new cover for your steering wheel, as you’ll be finger-drumming the hell out of it.
