( votes)It’s been 4 years since Flotsam and Jetsam’s (F & J) last new studio release, Ugly Noise. F & J appear to back in full force with their new full-length effort simply titled, Flotsam and Jetsam. As an often-cited under-rated legend of the Thrash scene, Flotsam and Jetsam have had various line-up and stylistic tweaks over the years with vocalist Eric AK being the only constant and original member. This new self-titled release has been highly anticipated by fans and seems to be delivering exactly what they want. Straight ahead, aggressive, classic Thrash with excellent, modern production and no-holds-barred lyrics. Song themes range from medieval torture devices, war and politics, to how great Metal is and the glory of the mosh pit.
Thrash and Metal fans in general, old and new, will love the straight-ahead, no-nonsense style of this release. Eric AK’s vocals are in pristine form and Flotsam and Jetsam features excellent performances all around. If there is anything negative to say about the album, it’s that it is perhaps a bit too straight ahead and one dimensional. That being said, if you like one song on the album, you’ll like them all. It’s a truly excellent addition to Flotsam and Jetsam’s catalog.
