( votes)One of the most venerated “underground” guitarists in heavy rock music is Uli Jon Roth. As one of the early-on members of the Scorpions before they hit paydirt, Roth has made a number of attempts to remain relevant in the music/artistic music scene, especially since the turn of the century. His latest endeavor has been to re-record and “Roth-ize” a number of the Scorpions tracks he originally had a hand in creating from the albums Fly To The Rainbow, In Trance, Virgin Killer, and Taken By Force.
The release is a 2-CD set containing 19 total tracks. Nathan James is the featured vocalist (he performs commendably) and along with Roth and his supporting cast succeeds in offering a “freshened up” version of all 19 tracks (which benefit from modern sound production techniques). However, this album comes off more as a true “cover band” release than a signature Roth release, mainly due to the voice of James … making for somewhat of a non-descript “ho-hum” presentation overall that will likely fail to motivate or captivate listeners.
