Seven Hard Years was created by Shy’s drummer, Alan Kelly. Along with vocalist Shawn Pelata (Line Of Fire), Kelly created a “supergroup” of sorts of artists from lesser known bands, all of whom perform well in this Melodic Rock debut entitled No Place In Heaven. There’s nothing wrong with this album, but unfortunately the Melodic Rock subgenre has little flexibility for differentiation and/or musical virtuosity. So, if you like vocally intense, but musically simplistic tracks, then No Place In Heaven may be your eternal reward … but if you’re looking to be impressed by virtuosity then pass on this one.

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
