Dark Moor is a Symphonic Metal band from Spain, and Ars Musica is their 9th release to date.  The first thing that hits as surprising is that Dark Moor is fronted by a man … today’s expectations are that Symphonic Metal bands require a front-woman instead of a front-man.  Actually, this twist is rather refreshing … but that’s where the surprises (and overall enjoyment) of Ars Musica ends.  The musicianship is at least adequate, but the mix of various instruments at various times is erratic at best, and vocalist Alfred Romero sounds like he is half asleep in his delivery.

Based out of Indianapolis, USA he was first turned on to Hard Rock music in the mid-1970s when he purchased Deep Purple's Machine Head as his first album. He was immediately enthralled with the powerful guitar sound and pronounced drumbeat, and had to get more! His collection quickly expanded to include as many of Heavy Rock bands of the time that he could get his hands on, such as Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few.
