( votes)Every once in a while, the Metal Gods shine down on an artist and pronounce them worthy to stand in company of greatness. Upon listening to the latest release from Innerwish, No Turning Back, you certainly get that feeling that something of significance is evolving.
Innerwish is a Power Metal band from Greece. They have been around since 1995. No Turning Back is their fourth album. The band consists of six members, including two guitarists and a keyboardist. They clearly have all the elements and talent required to make some very powerful and melodic Metal music.
From the opening sections of screeching dual guitars on their first track, “The Signs Of Our Lives” it is evident Innerwish is prepared to take you on an exceptional Metal experience. All of the tracks on this album contain several influences and pieces from current and classic Metal heavyweights of the same genre. Artists like Helloween, Dio, Primal Fear, Iced Earth, and even Judas Priest have some bearing on the music that Innerwish produces.
Each of the twelve tracks on this album could easily be an instant classic. There is not a weak song to be heard. The vocals of lead singer Babis Alexandropoulos are extraordinarily strong. He has the ability to carry a distinctive sense of emotion and passion into his singing. Such ability allows the listener to feel what he is expressing through his words. There is no lack of talent from any other members either. The keyboards accentuate the dual guitar scenario, but do not exceed what is necessary. The guitar riffs clearly drive the songs, as well as the catchy choruses which are unique to each track.
It’s difficult to pick out a couple of songs which stand out. However, the most exceptional track is “Kingdom Of The Prime”. This seven minute gem is one of those traditional epic songs that make an album classic. Another great song is “Sirens”. This is a driving and compelling piece of music which is reminiscent of something you might find on any Classic Metal album. “Live For My Own” is an acoustic track which features only vocals and keyboards. This is an emotional piece which Alexandropoulos pulls off his best singing on the entire album.
Innerwish is an evolving band. They haven’t yet reached the pinnacle of their career. However, No Turning Back certainly should be the catalyst to get them there. They have all the tools necessary to put them over the top. No Turning Back is a very good album and filled with potential. Any Metal fan should enjoy this one and will not be disappointed.
