PAINSIDE – Dark World Burden

The majority of the world’s Metal bands share and derive influences from Iron Maiden’s music. Deep within this majority there are bands, which their music has taken the modern turn. Following the power of Maiden’s melodies and immense vocal style, it became a rather modernized version of Maiden or a similarity to Bruce Dickinson’s solo act. Such bands, for example, as the German Brainstorm, Finnish Machine Men and in the case presented here, Painside from Brazil, show their love, appreciation and tribute to the true Metal gods of all time.

Painside has just begun displaying its utter power with its first record, Dark World Burden. This record will land on your head soon enough because it is just too good not to. Get ready for the dark side of everything that even resembles Maiden, be aware of the attacking heaviness and be amazed by the melodies and the depth of the evilized Dickinson pattern to be admired by all. This is the dark world of Painside, and their Heavy Metal comes down hard with hammers drawn.

Painside, on their debut, did their best to show the contradiction within their music. While discussing darker matters of one’s life, everything usually turns colder. However, Painside showed the other hand. The music displayed here is not cold; nevertheless, it is the other way around. Dark World Burden, with its troubling title, endorses a warm yet traditional, yet modernized, Heavy Metal with Thrashy elements filled with Maiden-ish melodies that act as flames upon a humid ground. Those melodies gave this steel its might. As this soil heats up, it receives frequent storms of lava splashes from the vocals of Guilherme Sevens (the band’s artist and Bruce Dickinson like hero – what a vocalist and what passion!). By combining their attributes as a band and as writers/performers, Painside made this contradiction a worthwhile covenant for every Metalhead worldwide.

With a strong line of gloomy like tunes, followed by a flawless production made by the hands of Brazil’s Renato Tribuzy (you might know him from his own band – Tribuzy) and Alex Macedo (at the mixing position) and vocal acting guests as Chris Boltendahl (Grave Digger), Gus Monsanto (Revolution Renaissance) and Tribuzy himself. This debut is the blistering promise for a prosperous future for this newcomer band.

If you dig bands such as Brainstorm, Machine Men, Bruce Dickinson, Nevermore, Disturbed and modern Heavy Metal in general, this album is a must have on your CD player. This is the joining of darkness and light, cold mixed with warmth. In this case, like others outside of the music world, opposites attract each other. This is what you will find on this breaker so please don’t make your life a burden and take on Dark World Burden.
