Fifteen years ago the British Melodic Rock band Lost Weekend started out. They have not gained much success since, although they’ve been touring with such bands as Saxon, Bob Catley and TNT. Now they have released a brand new record entitled Fear And Innocence. This however is not much of a record. There are no strong songs to refer to and the band sounds absolutely emaciated.

The opening track is entitled “The Eagle” and is one of those great sing-along songs. However, there’s nothing new about it. The guitar riff and chord progression have been heard a thousand times before. It is not a great song but yet one of the best on the album.

“Face Of An Angel” is the fourth song on the album and is a bit slower and heavier than the previous three. It shows more attitudes and is the very highlight from this record. From there it goes down again into an absolutely nowhere going ballad entitled “Father And Son” with an almost irritatingly repetitive refrain.

Number seven has a very potential guitar riff but the rest of the band fails to support it. Number eight has this haunting piano arpeggio that goes over and over again. It becomes just irritating listening to, makes you wonder why they did not come up with a second melody to make it a little varied at least.

“Only The Strong Survive” heightens the standard a bit with a simple but great guitar riff and a catchy chorus. The guitar solo kicks some ass too. However, the sound of the lead guitar is nothing else than crappy. It’s so sharp that it threatens to sting your ears out.

Producer Martin Kronlund and Escape seems to be a great connection. After all, Martin has a lot to do with the production/mixing of their artists. The drum sound he comes up with is unmistakable. It’s raw and aggressive and really lifts this album a little. However, it’s too bad that every band he produces gets the same drum sound. There’s nothing unique about it anymore as it’s worn out by all the bands.

The entire album is heard done better a thousand times before. It’s a mediocre record that you should not waste your hard earned money on.
