( votes)The German band Polution spend 11 years from the beginning of their career until the release of their debut album Overheated, an album you shouldn’t expect to knock your socks off.
The album starts out with a true rocker entitled ”Reality.” This one is a fast song and it pounds out energetic riffs and aggressive vocals on its way. You’d really love driving fast in your car or motorcycle while listening to the driving rhythms of this one; it is pure biker Rock N’ Roll! “Reality” is an overwhelming opener for sure and the very best song on the album. The only thing that drags this song down is that the vocals disappear a little in the mix; you must concentrate a bit if you want to catch the lyrics.
“Hard Work” is the next song, which is not that special but a great tune. Sure, you’ve heard it all before, but taking a walk through the street of clichés is highly welcome some times. Midway through this tune it even shifts towards a Power Metal part, which was maybe a little too much, but in the end it goes back to its Bluesy Rock roots again. As you come deeper into this song you start to think this CD will be a Rock N’ Roll adventure, but it doesn’t turn out that way, not at all! From the AOR-orientated title track and to the very end of the album, it’s only repeating and ends up nowhere. It seems like the songwriters got totally stuck on Alzheimer Avenue, squeezing out the same guitar riffs and much of the same tempos. There are some fine songs on the record, but through the 13 songs present here, it becomes absolutely insignificant. There’s no variation and you grow tired halfway through it.
Polution has potential, but they’ll have to work hard with a second release.
