TWINSPIRITS – The Music That Will Heal The World

Daniele Liverani’s new project, Twinspirits, is a group with the main goal of breaking big in the Progressive Metal world. The band’s first release The Music That Will Heal the World provides an uncompromising foray into layered tones, majestic keyboards, and power vocals. Comprised of virtuoso musicians, Twinspirits provide listeners with an easy entry into the Progressive genre.

The Music That Will Heal the World has a straightforward beginning with “Projected.” Here, the musical introduction is long, and features a haunting guitar solo performed by teen prodigy Tommy Ermolli. The guitar blends seamlessly with the classical keyboard influences of Daniele Liverani. Suddenly, the complex compositional structures abound and it’s clear that Twinspirits is already a league or two above their Progressive Metal counterparts.

“Back To Reality” begins with a traditional Melodic Rock guitar riff, making an interesting juxtaposition for the screams of vocalist Soren Adamsen. In many respects, Adamsen sounds like he attended the Ronnie James Dio school of vocal training. While the vocals pair up, in some respects, the lyrics are a bit lacking. At some points, “Back to Reality” feels repetitive, despite Adamsen’s best attempts to carry the song.

Interestingly enough, “What You Want” sounds eerily similar to early Metallica. In the days before Metallica sold out, the band infused some elements of Progressive Metal into their Thrash sound. The soft guitar line on “What You Want” sounds like an outtake from the … And Justice For All demos. While it’s always exciting to hear a band pay homage to their influences, Twinspirits must be careful to forge their own sound.

The second longest track on The Music That Will Heal The World is the magnificent “Understand.” Employing interesting programming and a driving drumline, Adamsen’s voice finally finds its musical match. The members of Twinspirits are able to keep the momentum going through the finale of the album. The Music That Will Heal The World ends with the album’s title track. Clocking in at just over 12 minutes, the song is a mini-epic journey, encapsulating the goals of band founder Liverani. Here, Liverani’s fingers whip over the keyboard and Ermolli masters his electric guitar. Sadly, it seems the bass work of Alberto Rigoni is hidden on “The Music That Will Heal The World.” Still, the lyrics are uplifting, praising the power of song as savior of the world. A message of anti-war and self-expression, the album begins just as powerfully as it begins.
