German thrash metal maniacs Spitfire have been delivering in your face, punchy, old school thrash metal since 2014, and are big with what may be their best work yet: Spitfire – Trinity on Witches Brew records. The album is the follow up to the 2022 release Nightmares, and shows that the band keeps pushing their musical limits. Founding members Thunder Manne (Stealth, ex-Savaasaq, ex-Markgraf, ex-Mystic Circle) on the drums, and vocalist Rico Motörizer (Stealth) return with Daniel Bolz on guitar and Simon Moch (The Italian Way) on the bass to give us a great high energy, head banging album that will make your neck hurt!

Lyrics

Bending the Reality

Your life today is the result of the past
Scream or pray, truth is what will last
Don’t you always blame the others
Will is all that matters

Grow a thicker skin
Solve the problem from within

Close your eyes
Think about what you will be
Self respect dies
bending the reality

This sample of the lyrics from “Bending The Reality” is a good sample of the powerful, positive message that the band lays out for us. We have the strength and the answers within ourselves, as we need to face our problems head on.

Production

Spitfire – Trinity was recorded at Graubau Studios by Luk Becker, and mixed and mastered by Phil Schimpgen and Luk Becker. They’ve done a great job, as the guitars are powerful, punchy, and way in the front where they belong. The drum sound is pretty damn awesome, and is always the key to getting a great mix. The vocals are in well executed, and layered to give the full power that thrash metal so needs. The overall mix is very reminiscent of the bay area thrash sound that they are seeking to emulate.

Final Notes

Thrash metal is alive and well in Germany, and around the world, and Spitfire are here to prove it. Trinity is a triumph for the band, and shows that they can dish it out right along with the bands that they love. Fans of Overkill, Exciter, old Metallica, Nuclear Assault, Motörhead, and Speed Queen will love this record, and need to get their hands on a physical copy to support this great band. Whether it’s on vinyl, CD or a download, you owe it to yourself to add this gem to your thrash metal collection.
