Oceans of Night is a progressive metal band based in the New York area that has been active since 2007. The project is primarily the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Scott Mosher, who handles guitars, bass, and keyboards, while collaborating with vocalist Scott Oliva (known for his work with Reverence and Wind Wraith).
The band’s sound bridges the worlds of progressive metal, melodic hard rock, and ambient music, creating an experimental yet cohesive style. Their music often features complex compositions with traditional song structures, blending heavy guitar riffs with prominent keyboard elements. Influences can be heard from bands like Rush, Qüeensrÿche, and Fates Warning.
Oceans of Night has released several albums over the years, with their latest offering, Mindstorm, coming out in 2024 after a decade-long hiatus. The album showcases the band’s evolution, featuring twelve tracks that span over an hour of music. Songs like “Closer to the Edge” and “Servants of Shadow” demonstrate their ability to balance progressive elements with more aggressive, guitar-driven passages.
While primarily a studio project, Mosher’s focus is on song composition and musical collaboration rather than live performances. The band operates independently, often releasing their music digitally.
Oceans of Night continues to contribute to the progressive metal scene, offering a unique blend of styles that appeals to fans of both traditional prog and heavier metal sounds.
