Bay Area Thrash Veterans Sadus are back and are set to release their first album in almost twenty years entitled The Shadow Inside. Sadus’s vocalist/guitarist Darren Travis took the time to talk with Metal Express Radio about their upcoming album, coming out of hiatus, plans for their next record, and more. Check out the chat below!
Metal Express Radio: Your band, Sadus, are set to release their new album entitled The Shadow Inside on November 17th, what can you tell fans about the upcoming release?
Travis: I hope you enjoy the metal! Ten tracks of metal goodnessess!
MER: How was it writing and recording with the band for the first time in over ten years?
Travis: It was totally freaking awesome!! To get back playing music with Jon was a total pleasure and a great experience. We work so well together, you can tell on the music.
MER: About a year ago you announced signing to Nuclear Blast along with a new album, and single, how was it to see and hear the fans reaction to the return of Sadus?
Travis: It has been a blessing to get the reaction of everyone. We have been gone for so long, I didn’t expect the reaction that we have been getting, and it is just building! Bigger and bigger!
MER: You’ve released three different songs from The Shadow Inside, what kind of feedback have you received?
Travis: We have been getting a great response so far, everyone appreciates the new music coming forward. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the whole thing, and to see what people like between the different types of songs on the album.
MER: What do you see as plans for you and the rest of the band after the album release?
Travis: I am already writing the next one!! I can’t wait to play these tunes live for everyone, should be a great experience live.
MER: Is there anyone that you hope to tour with that you haven’t and why?
Travis: I am waiting to see what happens, we have a lot of friends out there that would love to bring us out there again, and hopefully make some new friends, bringing the goodness!
MER: Are there any newer band’s from the New Wave of Thrash that have caught your attention?
MER: Too many to list. Hopefully we can catch up with them, I’ve been out of the scene for too long!
MER: What have been some of your favorite releases of 2023?
Travis: I haven’t heard too many full albums but I always enjoy me some Autopsy, Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, interested in hearing the new Angra, and the Obituary release was cool. I really don’t listen to metal per say, mostly old shit 70s type rock to calm my anxiety. I don’t need more anxiety and metal seems to do that for me so I like to just play it.
MER: What was your motivation to come out of hiatus and release a new album?
Travis: I had recorded a ton of tunes over the years and wanted to record some of them, and it just turned out that a record label like Nuclear Blast wanted to hear them so here we are! I hope I don’t let them down, but everyone seems to be enjoying the tunes so far.
MER: How is it seeing so many Bay Area Thrash band’s that started out around the same time as Sadus still touring and putting out music?
Travis: There is a huge resurgence in old school metal, and the kids love the old stuff!
MER: Out of six albums from Sadus, what is one you would suggest to a new fan and why?
Travis: The Shadow inside because the new music is always my favorite. I cannot listen to the old material, just not very good production compared to todays stuff.
MER: Thanks for your time! Can’t wait to hear the new album!
Travis: I hope you enjoy this new record as well, thank you for your time and wanting to know more about SADUS! Spread the word of SADUS!
