German metal veterans Deserted Fear are set to release their sixth studio album entitled Viens of Fire on April 25th. The band’s guitarist/bassist Fabian Hildebrandt spoke with Metal Express Radio about their upcoming album, their upcoming European tour, playing with legends such as At The Gates and Obituary, and more. Check out the chat below!
Metal Express Radio: Your band, Deserted Fear, are set to release their sixth album entitled Veins of Fire on April 25th. What can you tell fans about the upcoming album?
Hildebrandt: We’re really happy with how Veins of Fire turned out! It’s a natural progression of our sound, intense, melodic, and powerful. Fans can expect everything they love about Deserted Fear but with even more depth and detail in the songwriting. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it!
MER: How was the writing and recording process, having this being your band’s sixth album?
Hildebrandt: Pretty much the same as always, relaxed and creative. We wrote and recorded everything in my studio again, which allows us to work without pressure. Since we all have day jobs, it’s great to be flexible and just meet up in the evenings when inspiration strikes. That process has worked well for us over the years!
MER: How would you compare this to your band’s previous work?
Hildebrandt: It feels like a logical evolution, more refined and mature. We’ve always wanted to push ourselves and this album is the result of years of growth as musicians and songwriters. It still sounds like Deserted Fear, but you can hear how we’ve progressed.
MER: You’ve released two songs from the album so far. Do you feel they represent the album well?
Hildebrandt: Yes! “The Truth” and “Blind” both showcase important elements of the album – melody, heaviness and atmosphere. But of course, the full album has even more variety. There are surprises waiting for the listeners!
MER: You recently sold out of the vinyl pre-order. How is it to receive that response just for the pre-order?
Hildebrandt: It’s amazing! The splatter edition sold out super quickly, but we still have some limited colored versions available in our shop. For those who missed out, the black vinyl version is unlimited, so no one has to go without. We’re really grateful for the support!
MER: You’ll be doing a headlining tour in Europe along with Kvaen, Fall of Serenity, and Messticator. What are your expectations for the upcoming tour?
Hildebrandt: We’re really looking forward to it! Especially the show in Jena, our hometown, will be a highlight. But honestly, every night is going to be special. Over the years, we’ve made so many friends all across Europe, so it always feels like a homecoming wherever we play.
MER: What do you see as plans for you and your band after the tour?
Hildebrandt: We have some festival appearances lined up and club shows in the fall. And of course, we’ll take some time to enjoy the summer with our families. Finding that balance between music and personal life is important to us.
MER: Is there anywhere that’s been your favorite to play live and why?
Hildebrandt: Difficult question, but if I have to name a few: F-Haus Jena, Party.San Festival, Turock Essen, Summer Breeze, Rock Harz or shows in Switzerland. These places feel like home because of the amazing people we’ve met there over the years.
MER: Germany has a rich history of heavy metal. How does it feel to be part of such a strong scene?
Hildebrandt: It’s great! The German metal scene is very well connected and there’s a strong sense of friendship between bands, fans and organizers. We really appreciate being part of that.
MER: You’ve been able to share the stage with a lot of big names such as Obituary and At The Gates. Is there anyone else you hope to tour with and why?
Hildebrandt: Honestly, playing with Obituary and At The Gates was already a dream come true for us. Of course, there are always more bands we’d love to share the stage with, but we’re just grateful for the experiences we’ve had so far.
MER: Out of your band’s six albums, which one would you recommend to a new fan and why?
Hildebrandt: Veins of Fire is a great starting point! It captures everything that defines Deserted Fear while showing how we’ve evolved as a band. But honestly, any of our albums will give new listeners a good impression of what we’re about.
Thanks for the interview – it was a pleasure! Greetings to all fans and enjoy our new album Veins of Fire! See you soon! Fabian – Deserted Fear
